Best Practice for Diagnosis and Management of Piscirickettsiosis

An element of the PisciNor project, funded by the Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF project no. 910068), was to investigate the status of pisciricketsiosis in the North-East Atlantic area and review the state of the art and current practices regarding prevention, diagnosis and management of pisciricketsiosis in the region.

Further, the study was to cover commonalities and contrast with the situation in Chile where the industry and research infrastructure has many years’ experience of working with pisciricketsiosis. The findings in this report are based on information gathered from available scientific and grey literature, publicly available data, diagnostic laboratory data, interviews and surveys with farming staff, fish health workers, diagnosticians and government agencies in Norway, Ireland and Scotland and incorporated findings from a Chilean survey on the same topic carried out by Bustos et al. (2025).
