The Norwegian Veterinary Institute contributes to safer milk in Malawi

The Norwegian Veterinary Institute is on a project visit in Malawi from October 12th to 18th, 2024, as part of the project "One Health – Controlling Zoonotic Diseases and antibiotic resistance (AMR) in the Milk Value Chain in Malawi, Ethiopia, and Tanzania". The project started at the end of 2022 and is funded under an agreement between Norad and the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. The goal of the project is to combat zoonoses, or diseases transmitted between animals and humans, and to reduce antibiotic resistance in milk production.

At the annual meeting of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), held in Paris May 26-31, researcher at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute (NVI) Saraya Tavornpanich was elected as a member of the Aquatic Animal Health Standards Commission.  The 6 current members of the commission are now from Australia, Chile, China, Ireland, Norway, and South Africa.

Senior researcher at the Veterinary Institute, and leader of the project, Ida Skaar believes that the knowledge is absolutely necessary to be proactive - especially in view of a wetter and warmer climate that we can probably expect in the future.
