Pasteurellosis in Norwegian salmon

Pasteurellosis in Norwegian salmon

Disease caused by Pasteurella spp. pathogenic for fish has become increasingly widespread in recent years. A three-year project led by the Norwegian Veterinary Institute and financed by the Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF) will provide more knowledge of these bacteria and control of disease.

Pasteurellosis is an extremely serious disease in Norwegian salmon farmed in the sea in south-western Norway. In 202 this disease was considered the third most increasingly important disease in farmed salmon on a national basis. The current project will establish infection models for testing of future vaccines and document the phenotypical characteristics, identify relevant biosecurity measures, study environmental survival and map transmission of infection.
