Past research projects

BIO-Direct

BIO-Direct is a strategic internal project at the Veterinary institute, funded for 4 years 2019-2022. The project involves more than 20 researchers and technical staff organized into five cross-diciplinary teams: 1. Disease biomarkers, 2. Immune protection, 3. Gene editing, 4. Cell models, and 4. Multiplexed immunoassays.

Covid-19 Seasonality

Covid-19 Seasonality aim to use international pandemic and zoonotic data to model the climate and seasonal impact on SARS-CoV-2 spread, as well as emerging disease hotspot data to estimate the progress of new zoonotic «disease X»’s in the future.

COVIDOSE

The COVIDOSE project will estimate the number of SARS-CoV-2 virus particles it takes to infect a human with the Covid-19 disease, and compare this to occurrences of virus in the environment.

COVRIN

COVRIN is a large integrative EU-funded project focusing on the development and harmonisation of detection and characterization methods for SARS-CoV2 in animals.

Elucidation of the role of Tenacibaculum spp. in atypical winter-ulcer in sea-farmed Atlantic salmon in Norway

Tenacibaculosis has recently emerged as a serious disease in Norwegian salmonid aquaculture. The contribution of environmental, management and bacterial factors to outbreaks of tenacibaculosis are unknown. The present study has main focus on increasing knowledge relating to this disease primarily through an epidemiological study aimed at identifying risk factors for development of tenacibaculosis.

ePod

Climate sensitive infections, like the parasite Elaphostrongylus rangiferi (brainworm), are, given current climate trends, an increasing threat to the sustainability of Arctic agriculture and indigenous Sami reindeer herding.
