Preventive actions against campylobacter in broilers (CampySafe)
The aim of Campysafe is to optimize preventive actions against Campylobacter in broilers.
Campylobacteriosis is currently the most prevalent foodborne human bacterial zoonosis in Norway. And consumption of poultry meat purchased raw has been identified as one of several risk factors for human campylobacteriosis.
The aim of Campysafe is to optimize preventive actions against Campylobacter in broilers. The action plan against Campylobacter was initiated in 2001 and has been running since.
The CampySafe project evalueates both current preventions in the Campylobacter action plan, and explores the potential of adding new alternative ones. Both sampling of the flock before leaving the farm on its way to the abbatoir, and process handling at the abbatoir is included for evaluation. An important premise for including new preventive actions is that the current food safety level is the same, or increased.
The project will provide knowledge and tools for evaluating the campylobacter food safety level in broilers, and is important for decision making when designing the best action plan possible.
