The Norwegian Veterinary Institute

The Norwegian Veterinary Institute is a biomedical research institute, and the national leading centre of expertise in biosecurity in fish and land animals.

The aim of the Institute is to become Norway’s centre of preparedness for One Health.

    Name: Hannah Joan Jørgensen

    Title: Veterinarian, Dr. Med. Vet (PhD)

    Role in project: Project manager and researcher

    Academic background: Veterinarian with a PhD within microbiology and veterinary public health.

    Experience: Hannah has an extensive research background within veterinary microbiology and veterinary public health.

    She has responsibility for advisory functions and national reporting of zoonotic diseases in Norway, and is the liaison for One Health at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute.

    Hannah has been living in Nairobi, Kenya since August 2021 where she has a joint appointment with the International Livestock Research Institute within One Health.

    Name: Carlos das Neves 

    Title:  Director for Research & Internationalisation at Norwegian Veterinary Institute,  Professor, Dr. Med. Vet (PhD)?

    Role in project: 

    Academic background: Prof. das Neves has developed his scientific research in the field of virology in wildlife species and accumulated over these years extensive experience of fieldwork across the Arctic region. We works mostly today with topics related to ONE HEALTH and emerging threats, especially viral zoonosis and antimicrobial resistance, also with a focus on LMICs.

    Experience: Prof. das Neves served previously for 3 years as Head of Virology and 2 years as Head of Food Safety & Emerging Threats at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. He holds a joint position as Professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Tromsø.

  • Shokouh Makvandi-Nejad

    Name: Shokouh Makvandi-Nejad

    Title: Dr.

    Role in project: Researcher

    Academic background: PhD in Immunology and MPhil in Global Health

    Experience: For many years, Shokouh has been studying viral infections, such as HIV-1 and HIV-2, HCV and corona in Africa and Asia. As part of her research, she has been involved in vaccine development for HIV-1 and most recently anaplasma. For more than 15 years, she has been involved in implementation of various health and education programs in African and central Asian countries.

  • Cecilia Wolff

    Name: Cecilia Wolff

    Title: Veterinarian, PhD, EPIET alumni

    Role in project: Researcher

    Academic background: Veterinarian with a PhD within veterinary epidemiology.

    Experience: Cecilia has a research background in veterinary epidemiology and public health. She is currently senior researcher in epidemiology at NVI, where she works mainly with integrative epidemiology and operationalization of One Health.

    Name: Siv Klevar

    Title: Veterinarian, Dr. Med. Vet (PhD)

    Role in project:  Work package leader (WP4) and researcher

    Academic background:  Veterinarian with a PhD within immunology and serology

    Experience:

    Siv has extensive experience with serological diagnostics in terrestrial animals, including surveillance programmes and preparedness at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute.

    She is also the Norwegian reference laboratory contact for selected notifiable agents, including Rabies and Foot and Mouth disease and  in charge of profiency testing of serological methods for selected notifiable diseases. Siv has also experience from field work and research expeditions in Africa

    Name: Kari Lybeck

    Title: Veterinarian, PhD

    Role in project: Participant and researcher in Work package (WP4)

    Academic background: Veterinarian with a PhD within immunology

    Experience: Kari has solid experience in veterinary immunology. She has been part of several research projects involving development of vaccines and immunological methods, and has experience with serological diagnostics in terrestrial animals. She is also responsible for handling vaccine related questions at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute.
