Contingency management and surveillance

Laboratory diagnostic and analysis findings form the foundations for decision-making in government and the private sectors. The National Veterinary Institute will strengthen its role as being a centre of excellence within laboratory diagnostics and analysis relative to fish and animal health, and food. This will be done by further developing the reference functions of established methods and by introducing new methods and technology. Epidemiological expertise will be used both in optimalising alert and in ensuring that monitoring and surveillance schemes are based on high scientific standards. Having quality-assured and dedicated laboratories of international standards is a prerequisite to well-functioning contingency management and surveillance. Networking and alliance-building so as to improve such contingency management will take priority.
