Threatens salmonids

Proliferative Kidney Disease (PKD) has long been a problem in Europe. Now the disease is a growing problem also in Norwegian rivers.

PKD will in some places be as dangerous as the parasite Gyrodactylus salaris which infects salmons. In other places PKD will cause even graver problems as it infects not only salmons, but all salmonids.
Two serious PKD-infections was reported in autumn 2006 and researchers and authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Some researchers claim the infections are results of climatic change, as the parasite thrives in warmer waters. We can therefore expect more attacks in the future.
