The National Veterinary Institute analyzes specimen from animals with symptoms of the disease. The preliminary results show that Foot-rot is widespread in some areas of Rogaland.
A total of 250 000 sheep will be examined to look for symptoms of Foot-rot by the farmer organizations NSG and Animalia. The disease, if widespread in larger areas, may turn out to be a huge problem for the sheep farmers in some areas of Norway. The Norwegian Food Authority will collect samples flocks with suspicion of infection. The National Veterinary Institute is expecting a large number of samples in the next few weeks.
