Reference Functions

The National Veterinary Institute has an overall responsibility for a number of diseases, disease causing agents, and analytes from animals, food and feeds. All analytical laboratories in Norway are therefore obliged to send in samples of diverse bacterial isolates and chemical analytes to the Institute for identification and/or verification.

The Institute has a national reference role and functions as a reference laboratory for a number of diseases, disease causing agents and chemical analytes.

The Institute also has reference function roles under OIE (The World Organization for Animal Health) for Gyrodactylus and infectious salmon anaemia (ISA).
