Pancreas disease - statistics for 2008

The overview of suspected and confirmed cases of Pancreas disease (PD) in Norwegian fishfarms for 2008 is available. Pancreas disease has developed into one of the most serious diseases for the norwegian fishfarm-industry.

Not surprisingly the western counties are high on the statistics with Hordaland on top. These counties constitute the combat-zone for Pancreas disease. Within the zone there has been an increase in the number of reported cases the last few years. Apart from a few outbreaks in the north of Norway there has been no cases outside the combat-zone.

Pancreas disease affects salmonides in fishfarms and outbreaks can result in significant losses. The disease was first discovered in Hordaland county in 1995 and has gradually spread along the coast both south and north.

The illustration below shows the suspected and confirmed cases of PD in the different affected counties in the period between 2004 and 2008. The full report for 2008 is only available in Norwegian.
