Food Safety is a core actitivity at the National Veterinary Institute, and concerns nutrients in food and animal feed stuff.

At the National Veterinary Institute the research area is divided into chemistry, toxicology, microbiology and mycology. Uknown genetically modified organisms (GMO), allergens and algal toxins are some of the areas in which the National Veterinary Institute has specialized expertise.

The National Veterinary Institutes activities in the area of Food Safety includes research, diagnostics, contingency and preventive measures.
